When asked what my life goals are, I respond: I want to be a modern-day Renaissance woman when I grow up. My follow-up to the someone’s request to elaborate is always the same: I want to be a jack-of-all-trades, being well rounded in different topics so that I never become bored, obsolete, or pigeonholed throughout my lifetime. It is a goal set-up so that I am constantly working on it and tweaking it; starting from my adolescence to current state in my late 20s, and so on until my elder years. Being considered a Renaissance man/woman in the 15 century in Italy was the equivalent of modern-day version of reaching self-actualization. It was treated with high regard because one had different interests, talents, and hobbies, basically you were the perfect wedding date.
I like to consider myself on the route to becoming a Gastronomic Renaissance Woman. But this Renaissance woman has a little edge to her. Growing up in a household of immigrants, every possession and food product had to be accounted for and nothing was to be wasted.
This blog is meant to tell the stories of my path to becoming a frugal Gastronomic Renaissance Woman by being resourceful and thrifty with my daily eating and spending habits. Some posts will concentrate on my quirky tales of growing up in a household that influenced my scrappy lifestyle, and others will consist of recipes and tips to be more resourceful and frugal in the kitchen.
I guess the overall motive for sharing my quest is firstly as motivation for myself to continue on my path of self-improvement, bu most importantly, my goal to highlight our reoccurring issues of food waste that can easily be mitigated by becoming more self-aware and slowing changing our old habits to be conscious about our foods and thier bi-products.
Sit back, enjoy, and read!
